Overview
West Midlands Compressors Ltd recently completed a multi-day planned maintenance visit for an industrial customer operating several high-power air compressors. The scope of work covered two 30 kW compressors and one 75 kW variable-speed compressor, with a combination of standard servicing, major interval maintenance and a full lubrication system flush.
The objective was to ensure long-term reliability, protect critical components and return all machines to service with maintenance intervals correctly reset.
➡️ This project forms part of our ongoing air compressor service and repair support for industrial compressed air systems.
The System
The site operates multiple compressors supporting production, including:
-
Two 30 kW fixed-speed compressors
-
One 75 kW variable-speed compressor
Given the power range and duty cycle, all work was planned and carried out over several days to minimise disruption and ensure correct procedures were followed.
Work Carried Out
75 kW Variable-Speed Compressor
A decision had been made to change lubricant type on the 75 kW VSD compressor. To ensure compatibility and protect the airend and oil separation system, the following work was carried out:
-
Full lubrication system flush to remove residual oil and contamination
-
Major service carried out following the flush
-
Oil separator replacement
-
Controlled draining and refilling of the oil system with the new lubricant
-
Inspection of internal components during service
Correct oil management is critical on larger compressors, and this type of work is typically carried out as part of a structured industrial compressor maintenance programme.
30 kW Compressors
Planned maintenance was carried out across the 30 kW units, including both standard and major interval tasks:
-
Standard service on one 30 kW compressor
-
Air filter replacement
-
Oil filter replacement
-
Oil change
-
-
10,000-hour major maintenance on one 30 kW compressor
-
Replacement of all four oil separator elements
-
Inspection of separator housing and associated components
-
This level of servicing helps maintain compressed air quality and supports long-term system reliability, particularly on compressors running extended hours.
Air Treatment & Filtration
During inspection of the compressed air treatment equipment, additional issues were identified and rectified:
-
Float drain replaced on one inline filter
-
O-ring replaced on a second inline filter to restore correct sealing
Issues within air treatment and filtration can often lead to pressure losses or moisture-related problems if left unaddressed. Identifying and resolving these during routine visits is an important part of professional compressed air system servicing.
Testing and Recommissioning
Following completion of all maintenance work:
-
All compressors were recommissioned and tested under normal operating conditions
-
No faults or operational issues were identified
-
Service counters were reset on all relevant machines
-
Equipment was returned to service with maintenance intervals correctly reinstated
Outcome
The site’s compressed air system was returned to full operation with:
-
Lubrication systems correctly flushed and refilled
-
Major and standard service intervals completed as scheduled
-
Improved long-term reliability and reduced risk of unplanned downtime
-
Clear maintenance baselines set for future servicing
Summary
This multi-day visit highlights the value of planned, methodical maintenance on higher-power industrial compressors. By combining routine servicing, major interval work and correct lubrication management, the customer’s compressed air system was protected for continued reliable operation.
For sites operating similar equipment, structured air compressor service and repair plays a key role in reducing downtime and extending compressor life.
